The creative works found here at the entomologist, combine natural elements found within our everyday environment and which inspire works of creativity and art.

The Migrant Hawker dragon fly, honey bees and butterfly are used as reference points which unfold into a series of beautifully designed and hand crafted works using materials from renewable sources, both simple and exotic natural wood veneers.

These Materials are blended in the best configurations to make these intricately detailed works, work and are hand finished, unique in every way.

  • Dragonfly & Mythology

In many regions and as a norm of this day, the dragonfly is considered to be an agent of change and presumably symbolic of a sense of self realization. Self realisation from how the dragonfly uses its power to control its movements and so elegantly.

Change and evolution is all about the dragonfly’s ability to fly and the way it can be comfortable on water, land as well as the air.

    Mythology:

In China, people associate the dragonfly with prosperity, harmony and as a good luck charm.

Amongst Native Americans, it is a sign of happiness, speed and purity. Purity because the dragonfly eats from the wind itself.

To the Japanese, it symbolises summer and autumn and am admired and respected all over, so much so that the Samurai use it as a symbol of power, agility and best of all, Victory.

It symbolizes the uninhibited vision of the mind and the ability to see beyond the limitations of the human self. It also, in a manner of speaking, symbolises a man/woman’s rising from materialism to be able to see beyond the mundane into the vastness that is really our Universe, and our own minds.

  • Design and making

These distinctive works are evolved through a digital design process using various software platforms combining advanced tooling with millimetre precision enabling complex designs to be produced. Using a combination of intricately cut wood and acrylic veneers and other materials I am producing a rang of unique artistic works for both the home and workplace.
